Sprunger Street between W. Water St. and W Main St. will be closed starting March 19, 2026, for the sanitary sewer project. The alley located between the Berne Post Office and the Berne Public Library will also be temporarily closed starting on March 19, 2026. During this time, the mail drop-off boxes will also be closed while work is being completed.

Residents can use the USPS lobby mail drop-off box, if needed. Please use extreme caution when in this area.

Berne, Indiana (2/20/2026) - The Arbor Day Foundation named Berne a 2025 Tree City USA in honor of its commitment to plant, grow, and maintain trees to benefit its community.

Notice is hereby given that the City of Berne intends to dispose by sale of the following described personal property pursuant to I.C. 5-22-22-5 which is no longer needed or is unfit for the purpose for which it was intended.  The sale shall be made by receiving sealed bids.

 

The property is described as follows:

 

            2013  White Ford Explorer VIN #1FM5K8AR5DGB54370;   Mileage: 119,768

 

            2010 White Ford F250 Super Duty  VIN #1FDNF2B56AEB43270;  Mileage: 92,149

 

The two vehicles will be on display at the City of Berne City Hall Building, 158 W Franklin Street, Berne, Indiana 46711, from the date of this notice until bid opening.

 

Sealed bids must be received by the City of Berne c/o Clerk Treasurer, City Hall, Berne, Indiana by 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.  Bids shall be opened at the regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety on April 15, 2026, at 8:00 a.m.  The sale will be made to the highest responsible and responsive bidder.  However, the City of Berne reserves the right to reject all bids on one or more specific vehicles.

 

The property may not be sold to a person who is ineligible under I.C. 36-1-11-16 and an offer to purchase the property submitted by a trust (as defined in I.C. 30-4-1-1(a)) must identify each beneficiary of the trust and settler empowered to revoke or modify the trust.

Notice is hereby given by the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Berne, Indiana that sealed proposals will be received at the office of the Clerk-Treasurer of the City of Berne, Indiana (158 W. Franklin St., Berne, IN 46711) until 8:00 A.M. on April 15, 2026, at which hour the bids will be publicly opened and read aloud for pricing on a remodeling project with the following Scope of Work for the Public Safety Building of the City of Berne, Indiana, located at 1160 West Main Street, Berne, Indiana.  Said Scope of Work includes improvements as follows:

New basement drywalled walls (wood studs or drywall glued to concrete walls), suspended ceiling, enclosing of the furnace and electrical panel, and building storage closets, more particularly as follows:
•    Construct floor to ceiling drywalled walls around electrical panel with steel door and keyed lock.
•    Construct drywalled walls across the east end of the basement, with two 6' swinging double doors.
•    Construct drywalled walls and a 6' swinging double door across front of furnace.
•    Construct drywalled wall around sewer pipe from first floor restrooms to basement floor.
•    Remove and cap stool flange and any other pipes protruding through the floor that are presently not in use.
•    Patch and repair floor as needed with concrete patch.
•    Install fire rated suspended ceiling with 2'x2' fire rated ceiling tiles.
•    Add heat runs in the ceiling as needed.
•    Add 15 2’x4’ flat C-panel light fixtures in grid with dimmer switches.
•    Remove and reinstall smoke detectors, pull stations, Horn Strobes, and switch banks.
•    Paint all drywall, doors and trim with latex paint (gray).
•    4" rubber baseboard on all new walls.
•    Remove all trash and debris.

 

The above items shall be according to plans and specifications shown thereon for proposed Scope of Work on file in the office of the Clerk-Treasurer of the City of Berne, Indiana.

All bids shall be accompanied with a bond or certified check in the amount of Fifty Dollars ($50.00).

The City of Berne reserves the right to determine the responsiveness of each quote, to reject any and all bids, and to waive any formalities or irregularities in the bidding process.
